What A Difference Three Games Make

The New York Yankees headed into Detroit after being swept three games by the Boston Red Sox -- losing the first game 5-4; the second game, 16-11; and, game number three, 4-1.

Then, the Yanks lost the first game to the Tigers, 4-2, their fourth straight loss; and, it looked like the Yankees were in a free fall, staring deep into the dark abyss of failure with their season starting to fade away below the .500 mark, which could only end with the Bombers watching the playoffs from the comfront of their living rooms.

But, the baseball season is six months long before the playoffs begin; and, winning and losing streaks are all part of the game.

The Yankees quickly turned their losing road trip into respectability beating the Tigers in the final two games of their three-game series, 11-0 and 8-6, then returning to the Bronx to beat the L.A. Angels 7-4 in the first game of a four game series.

So, as this baseball season heads into May, the standings in the AL East are as follows ...

* Boston Red Sox      14 -  8   .636     --

* Toronto Blue Jays    15 -  9   .625     --

* New York Yankees  12 - 10   .545     2

* Baltimore Orioles      9 - 13   .409     5

* Tampa Bay Rays       9 - 14   .391    5.5

Not bad, really, so far, for the New York Yankees.

Yankees better come back today vs. L.A., or they'll have given away another game. That's the fifth one by my count (Royals, O.D., and two vs. the BoSox).

Above 500 in April.
I haven't said that in awhile.

I am satisfied with their April record. They usually get off slowly, so w/o A-Rod, I think it was a solid April. Hopefully Big Tex and CC come around soon!

As long as the Yankees lose to the Red Sox I'm okay. It still can't believe that A.) the Blue Jays are good. B.) The Orioles are average. add C.) the Rays suck. Take care.

Jimmy,
We'll see how these games change after the mini-series between the Red Sox and Yankees. I'm hoping the Sox will turn out on top!

Sorry Jimmy! I have to agree with Elizabeth! I'm looking forward to Red Sox wins on Monday and Tuesday against the Yankees! Of course the weather isn't looking too good! I was actually in NY this past weekend and I saw first hand that the weather wasn't so great.

Yankees HAVE to win tonight after losing game one. There are two ways to look at this, if they win, optimistic and pessimistic. Pessimistic is Red Sox have won four of five from the Yanks. Optimistic would be that the Yanks lost one series and split another-not an embarassing result. Of course for optimistic to make sense they have to win tonight.

Annnnnd they lost tonight.

Mo blows it too? What do we have to do to win? Poison the opposing team?

Not making any suggestions, of course.

Sorry I have not responded sooner ... I really haven't had too much to write about, or comment about, in recent days with the way the Yankees have been playing !!! ... But, I do appreciate all your great comments, thoughts, and kind words !!!
.
I feel energized by Alex Rodriguez's three-run homerun, on the first pitch, in his first at-bat, against the Orioles !!! ... Also, as I'm writing these comments, CC Sabathia just retired his 16th straight batter, completing eight shutout innings with the Yankees leading 4-0 so far in this game !!!
Joe Girardi "must" let CC pitch the 9th inning for the "complete game" shutout !!!
.
Take care, and thank you all, for your recent visits !!!

Jimmy,
You're right, it's only been a month, and anything can happen. Though, the Diamondbacks did fire their manager, but still, when it comes to the Red Sox and Yankees, anything can happen.

Hey, Elizabeth ...

Yeah, it still is early in this baseball season, and especially when it comes to the Yankees and Red Sox, like you said, "anything can happen" !!! ... But, it has been difficult for me, and I'm sure most Yankee fans, watching the way the Yankees have played so far -- five losses to the Red Sox, and the two losses to the Rays !!! ... At this point, the Red Sox and Rays are playing better than the Yanks, and really look like better "all-around" teams than the Yankees in the early going of the 2009 season !!! ... Then, when all looks lost with the Yankees in a major free fall, CC Sabathia pitches a brilliant 4-0 complete game shutout against the Orioles, and A-Rod returns with a big three-run homerun in his first at-bat, and rookie catcher, Francisco Cervelli has a great game behind the plate, making everything seem okay, at least, for the moment !!! ... There are a lot of "ups and downs" in every baseball season -- hopefully, yesterday's 4-0 victory will be the start of a very long winning streak by the Yankees !!! ... I still think it will be a three-team race between the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays, right to the finish line in the AL East this season !!!
.
Take care, Elizabeth; thanks for the visit !!!
